Applying your grey matter to the red stuff

The Fire Statistics and Research Division (FSRD) is the organisation responsible for undertaking analysis, research and development in all areas of Fire and Rescue Service activity. It is important work that has major influence on policy and the operational decision-making process in the Service. Right now we’re looking for two talented people to join us.

Senior Scientific Officer

£29,513

You will manage a number of projects relating to the Fire and Rescue Service’s operational practices, tactics, equipment, risk management and emergency cover planning. These projects could range from managing external researchers to conducting practical fire trials. As well as scoping, defining and driving the projects, you will also manage budgets and communicate the conclusions. Degree qualified in a physical science or engineering, you will bring analytical and project management experience – plus the proven ability to formulate research projects and design experimental trials.

Scientific Officer

£19,963

We’re looking for someone to join the team which plans, sets up and conducts a range of practical trials related to fire and rescue. You will have the opportunity to develop your ability to undertake research projects. Involved in the installation and operation of instrumentation, data loggers and other equipment, you will also measure trial conditions and outcomes, analyse data and produce written reports. With a degree in physical science, engineering or a related discipline, you will be IT literate and have mathematical ability to at least A-level standard.

Due to the nature of these posts, there will be occasions when you will need to retreat rapidly from a test situation.
