Ruling out danger

THE INSTITUTION of Chemical Engineers has collaborated with BP to publish two slide rules that help users estimate foam application rates and thereby reduce the likelihood and dangers associated with tank fires.

Part of the Process Safety publications range, the rules are ideal for use by tank designers and fire service personnel.

The first slide rule helps users to estimate the application flow, foam and water quantities required for a full surface tank fire using mobile or fixed firefighting equipment. The second estimates the flow, foam and water quantities for a rim seal fire.
