Disabled risk assessment guide
The Government has published Fire safety risk assessment: Means of escape for disabled people (supplementary guide). The guide is intended to be read in conjunction with the Government’s series of fire safety risk assessment publications, which provide guidance on risk assessment in a diverse range of premises.
Under current fire safety legislation, it is the duty of the responsible person to provide a fire safety risk assessment of a building – including an evacuation plan for both able-bodied and disabled people. The guide provides a range of information on accessibility and means of escape for disabled people, including how to prepare safe plans to meet legal requirements. It also includes some helpful resources, such as a matrix outlining appropriate escape methods according to particular disabilities.
This guide, and all the other Government guides in the fire safety risk assessment series, cost £5.00 each. For more information, or to place an order, please contact the FPA on www.thefpa.co.uk; e-mail: sales@thefpa.co.uk; tel: +44 (0)1608 812500.

A big thank you
It is with regret that we say goodbye to Wendy Otway. Wendy was an integral part of the journal team for over ten years and will be missed by all who have worked with her.
