History lessons

A PRACTICE exercise staged by Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service has underlined the need for owners of historic buildings to have disaster plans in place. More than 30 firefighters and six appliances took part in the exercise at the Grade-1 listed Adcote School near Baschurch. Water supplies and response arrangements were tested, with more than half a mile of hose laid along the lengthy drive to the Victorian building. Five people were ‘rescued’ from the school and crews also salvaged various substitute artefacts. The need for owners of historic buildings to catalogue priority artefacts to be saved in the event of a fire was a key message.
