Empty pub used for exercise

TWENTY FIREFIGHTERS from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service carried out life-saving training exercises in a vacant pub building last month. The team from Dunkirk Fire Station used the Wollaton Arms in Tamworth – which is likely to be demolished later this year – with the help of residential developer Crest Nicholson. The exercise involved crews enduring debris and simulated smoke to rescue drill dummies from the building. Watch manager Jason Caines said: ‘There is no substitute for an actual building, with lots of rooms, a complicated layout and a range of access points’.
