IACSC issues updated guide for temperature-controlled buildings

THE INTERNATIONAL Association for Cold Storage Construction (IACSC) has launched a second edition of its publication, Guidelines for the design, specification, construction, maintenance and fire management of insulated envelopes for temperature controlled environments.

The guide outlines the interacting fire-related complexities that need to be addressed by design teams in order to design against fire risk. It also outlines the factors that building control bodies should consider before giving approval solely in respect of meeting the fire safety requirements of Building Regulations.

The chapter on fire issues includes a summary of the relevant tests and explains the concepts of fire safety engineering in the context of storage and food industry requirements.

According to IASCS, the labelling scheme pioneered in the first edition of the guide (1999) and the associated core identification scheme has been brought up-to-date, and will be a useful tool for those carrying out the regular risk assessments now called for under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order in England and Wales.

The guide is currently available in hard copy, priced £95 plus £10 p&p, from IACSC on tel: +44 (0)1844 275 500; e-mail: IACSC@intfire.com
