BRITISH manufacturers are suffering from a lack of exposure in the international arena due to poor levels of government funding for UK exporters, warns Wilf Butcher, Fire Industry Association export manager and chief executive of the Association for Specialist Fire Protection.
Mr Butcher said that annual government spend to support UK companies to invest in international exhibitions has dropped from £20m to £8m in 2008. Other governments in Europe give greater support to exporters, he added.
‘Disparity in funding is encouraging our competitors to storm past us,’ he said.
