Acetylene robots

NETWORK RAIL and London Fire Brigade are exploring alternative means of overcoming the disruption and danger caused by incidents involving acetylene cylinders. Remotely-operated vehicles are being trialled for use in dealing with acetylene incidents on railway tracks. The robots have all-terrain capabilities and include features such as a mini-digger and thermal-imaging cameras, which gauge whether the cylinders are sufficiently cool for firefighters to approach them.
