Fire chief to step down

THE CHIEF fire officer of West Yorkshire and former president of the Chief Fire Officers’ Association (CFOA), Phil Toase CBE, is to retire from the fire and rescue service. He will step down in September after 34 years’ service. Mr Toase served throughout the brigade in West Yorkshire before becoming chief officer in 2000. He also headed CFOA in 2006/07 at a key time in the modernisation of the fire service. Councillor Philip Booth, chair of West Yorkshire Fire Authority, said: ‘Phil is an inspirational leader who has greatly influenced the regional and national agenda’.
