New-look Fire Fighters Charity

THE FIRE Fighters Charity – the new name for the UK Fire Services National Benevolent Fund – has pledged to expand its support base and campaign on more fire safety issues.

While the charity’s primary objective remains to support its existing beneficiary base of injured firefighters, it will also now support burns victims, as well as campaigning on fire safety issues.

The charity’s chief executive, Roy Lawrenson, said: ‘We are helping more fire service people every year. However, research shows that 5,000 additional beneficiaries are still slipping through the net each year, and we need to attract more funding if we are to support them all.

‘The only way that we can achieve that higher funding is to become more public-facing, as the public want to help their heroes.’

The charity’s new identity was launched at the Spirit of Fire Awards in mid-March, which recognised the work of fire and rescue services and charitable achievement.
