Fire Asia show set to explore emerging global challenges

A MAJOR new show taking place in Hong Kong next year will explore the need for expertise and creativity among emergency and engineering professionals.

Fire Asia 2009 – being held on 9-11 February – will comprise a conference and exhibition built around the theme of Rising to New Challenges.

The conference will explore the growing threat of natural and manmade disasters as a result of changes to the socioeconomic landscape and the global climate.

It will highlight the need for effective emergency planning and management, coordin-ated engineering practices, and joint working between emergency services and the private and voluntary sectors.

The conference is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Branch of the Institution of Fire Engineers, the Ambulance Service Institute, the China Hong Kong Fire Protection Association, and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, with the support of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department. A major exhibition will run alongside the conference.

The organisers of Fire Asia have issued a call for papers on a broad range of disaster, fire safety and emergency topics. Contact the conference secretary on e-mail: secretary@fireasia2009.com, sending a synopsis by 31 July.
