THE University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service are introducing a new three-year degree course to provide fast-track progress for students who join fire and rescue services on graduation.
The course, the BSc in Fire and Leadership Studies, will cover a range of subjects, including fire science, community fire safety, fire safety management and legislation, human resources, business and management practice, and leadership skills.
There is also an optional module for students to undertake full training as firefighters at Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service’s Euxton training centre to the standard expected of any firefighter recruit. Students who wish to pursue a career as an operational staff member or senior uniformed officer will need to take this optional module.
According to UCLan, students who take the course will be highly suited to a fast-track career into middle management or strategic roles in the service. The course starts in September 2009 and enrolment is invited this year through the University and Colleges Admissions Service at: www.ucas.ac.uk/
