Leeds Bradford Airport sees full fire alarm evacuation
THE AIRPORT saw the full evacuation of its terminal after a fire alarm activated in the departure lounge, with no fire found.
Leeds Live reported on the evacuation on Sunday 7 July, stating that passengers flying ‘into and out of’ the airport were affected by delays as a result of the alarm and evacuation. Passengers waiting for flights were evacuated from the terminal building while West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) crews were called to the scene to ‘carry out safety and security checks’.
A statement from a Leeds Bradford Airport spokesperson gave more details, noting: ‘At around 19:15 [Sunday] evening a fire alarm was triggered in our departure lounge. West Yorkshire fire service conducted both a fire safety and security sweep. The building was declared safe, though the source is still being determined.
‘This process lasted around an hour, which delayed some of our passengers. We successfully processed everyone back through security in about 25mins. We would like to thank the fire service for their swift response and our passengers for their patience and understanding. Maintenance teams are on site undertaking further investigations.’
